There is also an Applecare disc, but I doubt very much that will do anything for it.įrom what I gather Retail media for PPC Macs is silly expensive, so I'll write it up to experience and gut it as originally intended. The AHT disc was also included, and works, so I know it's not the optical drive/Mac itself. ![]() There's picky, but not accepting it's original restore media is just. Having verified with the previous owner these are the correct discs (He has only ever had 1 G5 Mac pro), I'm really stumped as why they wouldn't work. ![]() I have no idea what OS-X of this era and this machine itself are capable of. The latter appears to have some hope, by cleaning out the PSU and possibly running some sort of Apple Diagnostic Disk. Out of curiosity, I added memory and HDD as it came without, and the only faults I can see are no OS (Obviously, given it came sans HDD), and the fans ramp *all* the way up. dmg ISO file to pendrive so I can re-install the OS on a G5? I've tried using transmac, but it hangs when expanding the image every time I try it.Ģ) Am I right in assuming that the latest OS a PPC based Mac can run is 10.5.6ģ) Is it even worth trying? I bought it for practically pennies (I remember wanting one when they were announced, right until I saw the price), as I only intended to gut it and use the case to house a Linux rig. I can if needed, use a Live distro if needed.ġ) How do I get a. I need to do this from within windows, as my only working machine at this point is the other half's Asus EEE-PC 1000H.
